Volkswagen is an automobile manufacturing company headquartered in Wolfsburg, Germany, and serves as the core enterprise of the Volkswagen Group, one of the world's four largest automobile manufacturers. Below is a detailed introduction to Volkswagen:

### Brand History

- **Founding Background**: Volkswagen was established by Ferdinand Porsche in 1937. The brand name "Volkswagen" means "people's car" in German, reflecting its initial goal of producing affordable vehicles.

- **Development**: In 1936, Adolf Hitler proposed the production of an economical car accessible to every German. On May 28, 1937, "Volkswagen GmbH" was founded in Berlin, and in 1938, construction of the factory began in present-day Wolfsburg, with an annual production target of 1.5 million vehicles. During World War II, Volkswagen was repurposed for military production. After the war, the British government took over the Volkswagen factory. In 1947, the British decided to export Volkswagen vehicles, and in 1949, control was transferred back to the German federal government. By the 1950s, Volkswagen accounted for 50% of Germany's automobile exports, becoming the country's most important source of foreign exchange and gradually expanding into European, American, and African markets. In 1985, the joint venture Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd. was established. In February 1991, Volkswagen began collaborating with FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd. in Changchun to produce Volkswagen vehicles.
